Path of Rhythm Show opens in one week!

2feet12inches Presents:
Paths of Rhythm
Curated by Rob Aloia, Brent Bartley, Frankie Cedeno, Erik Foss and Ricky Powell

As artists coming up in New York City, the three elements that inspired and defined our crew’s wild youthful years are represented in our logo: 2’ (Kicks-street style) + 12” (Vinyl-music) = 212 (NYC as muse). In the streets, on the courts and at the clubs all three elements were with us in some form. Paths of Rhythm is a show about being a creative person in NYC.

A portion of all proceeds from this show will go to Art for Progress, a 501(c)3 non profit arts organization. Art For Progress' Arts Education Community provides underserved youth with dynamic artistic programming that promotes reflection and self-expression.

During the opening reception on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 7-10pm there will be The World Famous Ricky Powell Slide Show and dj sets by: Steven Lewis, Shorty, Stretch Armstrong, Gatto (Art for Progress), DJ Small Change, Sal Principato (Liquid Liquid), and John "Bloodclot" Joseph (Cro-Mags)

Participating Artists:

BAST, Marcus Burrowes, Conrad Carlson, Tony Chan, Chino, Daze, Harry Druzd, Cheryl Dunn, Harry Druzd, Tristan Eaton, Savior Elmundo, Shauna Figueroa, Leo Fitzpatrick, Donald Gajadhar, Joey Glover, Hugh Gran, Giannina Gutierrez, Charles Hardwick, Eric Haze, David Hochbaum, Todd James, Kinjal Mitra, John Perry, Ricky Powell, Dr. Revolt, Michelle Reyes, Christophe Roberts, Judi Rosen, Senz, Chris (Rage) Sherritt, Meryl Smith, Spam, Judith Supine, Joshua Wildman, Brian Williams, Nick Zinner, and more.

“Paths of Rhythm,” Curated by Rob Aloia, Brent Bartley, Frankie Cedeno, Erik Foss and Ricky Powell runs August 3 through August 17, 2011 at Fuse Gallery, 93 2nd Ave (between 5th & 6th Sts, 2nd Ave stop on the F), NYC, NY. Manfrotto Imagine More, DJ Kamala, Louie Vega

Tagged along with Ricky Powell to the Manfrotto Imagine More event wednesday before heading to work. Surprised to hear "pleasure of love" by the Tom Tom Club and even more surprised to see this guy playing all vinyl getting to be rare these days. Over at 5ninth DJ Kamala dropped some old-school disco and house highlighted by "try it out" by Gino Soccio. Popped in to Cielo where Louie Vega had crowd going with "another star" by Stevie Wonder but inexplicably cut it before percussion breakdown...

Ricky Powell's Paths of Rhythm Photo Series

Met up with the Rickster to map out our upcoming 2feet12inches photo portrait series. He brought out his autographed Puma Clydes, his own signature WESC headphones and Lou Donaldson's Everything I Play is Funky lp. We wanted to shoot by the courts in PS 41 but the kids were out in full force. Now that he is back from another slide show, this time in NOLA, we will get back to work tomorrow...

July 4th at 5 Ninth

This is the toughest post of my short blogging life. Should have tons more pics/footage from my sick 4th party at 5ninth but my camera was stolen. I rocked these Nike Terminators as the patriot I am. Got them christmas time 2 years ago at the Cross County Mall for $40. Had the Rickster come down with a bag of vinyl but he ended up overdosing on the BBQ and maybe some other stuff...anyway was very difficult to try to rock a party when I'm thinking of some fuckers' hands on my camera! I struggled through some sets and the place was packed and startin' to jump off and this fine girl caresses my sweaty shoulder as I'm hunched over my Mac looking for what to play next and asks me for the new Ciara which I didn't have of course but I did have her next selection and she disappears. As I peer around the booth she's grindin' no other than Steve Nash. News today is that his boy Amar'e is a Knick. I'm about as excited as when D'Antoni was named coach...
