Nighttrain "Hallo Bimmelbahn"\Boney M "Gotta Go Home"\Duck Sauce "Barbra Streisand"
The too cool for you school of Duck Sauce last year gave us the catchy and kinda sickening "Barbra Streisand" which I thought I was cool for getting the sample they used from "Gotta Go Home" and now I found that that was an interpolation of this 70's Europop track. Humbling and another instance of modern pop-culture's constant regurgitation.

Just another tuesday in NYC
Not every night out in NYC is so smooth. After a few wild-goose chases and dead ends we end up at Sutra where Marley Marl was in control...then Tony Touch gets back on and starts with this gem from the Bee-Gees not Snoop...then Just Blaze jumps behind booth and he works the fader while Tony scratches "Dance to the drummer's beat"Saturday, April 23, 2011

Knicks, Bing Ji Ling, Parker Posey, DJ Premier: Just Another Tuesday Night Out In NYC
Started innocently and early at Freemans with my boy Ryan. Then it was over to Minetta Tavern while we waited for room at the bar over at Miss Lily's for some Ackee, Sorrel and serious tunes. Then it was past time to get to a bar with a TV to catch end of Knicks V Celtics. Not gonna speak on that...happened to be by DJ Shorty's house and he scooped us up and took us to his gig at Rose Bar. One mighty expensive drink later he tells us Bing Ji Ling is performing at the Standard Hotel. We hop the train, grab a felafel and luckily get into the Boom Boom Room no problem. Funky soulful set and another even mightier drink bill and we hop cab to Bowery Bar to see Erich Conrad who is with his fav party girl Parker Posey. I lose Ryan there when his wife shows but with my boy Donald in tow we hit Sutra because DJ Premier was the guest DJ. Lotsa old-school heads in the house Grandmaster Caz, Greg Nice, Puba and Alamo etc. My boy Max Glazer usually spins reggae downstairs but he got bumped cause of Primo and he wasn't hating just taking it all in...

Michael Rapaport's A Tribe Called Quest Doc "Beats, Rhymes, & Life"
A Tribe Called Quest Documentary (Trailer) by PayeTaChatte
I think this is produced by Phife Dawg and besides his health there is some beef with Q-Tip which is sad but this is a must see regardless.

'Wicked' Wilson Pickett 'Get Me Back On Time, Engine No.9'
How I didn't have this track in my collection till today is a crime and shame I will never live down. Funky as all hell and supposedly used in a Protege sneaker ad. You know those kicks that sell for $19.99 great concept especially for the urban youth of america but when you're spokesperson is Al Harrington you ain't gonna takeover his Airness.

Beastie Boys Hot Sauce Committee Video Trailer 'Fight For Your Right - Revisited'
All the usual suspects of new-Hollywood douchebag comic 'geniuses' in an incoherent mess but I wanna see the whole thing anyways...

Adidas Originals Pro Model Pinstripe

Opening week of baseball, though Don Volcano's interest in MLB has been in steady decline since A-Rod signed that $250 million contract with Texas years back, still gotta represent with some heat. These came out while back no Yankee logo which is a good thing just classic navy pinstripes. Like all the free-agents say, "it's been a lifelong dream to wear the Yankee pinstripes..." and make all that Yankee loot.Andy Caldwell 'Warrior'
Everyone knows Don Volcano is no house-head but this mashup of 'Warrior' with some nouveau kung-fu flick clips is mesmerizing.

Ricky Powell's Paths of Rhythm Photo Series
Met up with the Rickster to map out our upcoming 2feet12inches photo portrait series. He brought out his autographed Puma Clydes, his own signature WESC headphones and Lou Donaldson's Everything I Play is Funky lp. We wanted to shoot by the courts in PS 41 but the kids were out in full force. Now that he is back from another slide show, this time in NOLA, we will get back to work tomorrow...

LA ROC & BANSKY Tags on Avenue A

So word is that LA ROC got arrested just before his show at Dorian Grey Gallery last month for tagging in east village. Just noticed these next to each other on avenue A between 10th and 11th the other day. So who is Bansky? In my somewhat dyslexic mind I always called Banksy Bansky and the fact he puts London underneath makes me wonder...
