Giant Step blessing us monthly at Good Units in the basement of the Hudson Hotel. Raw space is not great for sound quality but feels like a true old-school outlaw party. Got there a bit late heard he was all over the place in a good way. He was well into a Prince and affiliates set then disco-funk-classics then Fela then he used effects on Spottieottiedopaliscious and Umi Says and for an encore blew our ears out with Roots version of Din Da Da!
Could be like Triumph the insult comic dog at a Star Wars convention and destroy the crowd here but I ain't much better...
As usual I was late and missed the show my man SmallChange said 'it was alright' and he was groovin' on the dancefloor. Neil from Turntable Lab said it was his boss dj'ing, it was some cool world afrobeat shit. Passed on the Red Bull open bar and was hoping Kon was gonna take over the decks.
Finally went to see Boombox show at Clic Gallery and Bookstore and came across this book. I have the Ramsey Lewis record, if you don't know the track "Sun Goddess" get it asap. I got a signed copy of The Boombox Project and 2 weeks ago got a signed copy of "Keep on Running: The Story of Island Record"
