Gil Scott-Heron blesses Central Park Summerstage

Didn't know Gil was into stand-up, as he opened his own show with some stories and one-liners. It was hot as hell that day and had to leave mid-way through the show during 'pieces of a man' but Gil is still the man!

Brand Nubian in Crotona Park, Bronx

Big up to Ishmael for making a special Ital plate for me. Long trek up to Crotona Park but well
worth it. Sadat X and Lord Jamar hit the stage first then Puba (rocking airmax '95's) got on and they ran through the old and the new. Sadat X impressed especially with a coupla acapella freestyles. AG seemed to have the best time outta everybody. Kool Herc came and gave his blessings and announced next week he's bringing strictly vinyl and to bring your dancing shoes!

So Smooth...

Late start to this day after Drake party. Downt to Flight Club on Nassau to pick up a check and consign a my last pair of Dunk Low Cls. Then...Von King Park, Bed-Stuy, BK. Big Daddy Kane represented his hood lovely. The attire and finesse was on point as he came and rocked it and also dropped some science, tried to raise consciousness, and get the ladies in the mood. He had it all working and then some. Greg Nice came out on fire jumping around with hoarse voice and then put on a beatbox display. Chubbster treated 'em right too. Finale was perfection with Scoob and Scrap joining Kane to show us they still got the moves!

Drake Day

Was under the impression that Adidas was doing something for the World Cup at the Yard at the Soho Grand. Not the case so caught the Brazil v. Korea match at various places along West Broadway and was glad to see Scrap Yard still representing in Soho. Then off to work for the Drake album release after party. DJ A-Trak did his thing and the Jay-Z endorsed Armand de Brignac was flowing from this double magnum. Cash Money Crew all over the place but highlight by far was my man Elliot from Ego Trip introducing me to Busta. Said he's gonna hit the stage with Kane today. I'll let y'all know wassup...

The Beautiful Game?

Italia pulls out a 1-1 draw and this World Cup continues to make me wonder why exactly soccer is so widely loved when there is so little controlled play. Puma City is World Cup central in South Street Seaport, they actually have human-foosball go down there and kick some ass, literally. After the game off to vegan dim-sum on Pell Street then Clic Gallery to see the Ron Galella paparazzi show. Perfect sunset treat vegan soft-serve twirl at Lula's Sweet Apothecary on 6th Street.

Nice & Smooth and Special K & Teddy Ted

Rained out but I trooped it and got to hang with royalty when I ran into Special K in the park bathroom and he was gracious and humble and disappointed about the show so he took me to the holding area where they were all eating jerk chicken ad rice and peas. Smelled good, had my ital ass thinking...

Fania All-Stars Tribute at Summerstage with Bobbito

Music, weather, and crowd all conspired to make it another great day in the park. Then it was off to Esquina for dinner and over to 5ninth to rock the (town)house till 4am!

Just another wednesday in our little town...

Ah nothing like an 85 degree day in late spring on your day off. Hopped on my bike and met up with my boy Danny and some friends at Fort Tilden beach. He brought a cooler of Modelo Especials and an ipod full of classics. Much love for my Puma Ventoux, biker classic re-issues. Then off to Betsy Head Park to see the legendary Roy Ayers vibe out in East New York!

Jay Electronica in Red Hook

The kickoff for summerstage, Jay Electronica did his thing in the park. Though mid set he brought heads from the crowd to rock the mic and let's just say leave it to the pros. Speaking of which he coerced Pharoahe Monch up there to spit after earlier hinting of Nas and Monch ripped it. The rain held off and it was a beautiful evening but the plug was pulled when they just couldn't stop with the foul language...

Memorial Weekend Jam Sunday at 5ninth

In classic 5ninth style we rocked the house and bickered like teen siblings. It was hot as hell and packed like a mutha until someone decided to hold the door and open the third floor. Now how am I supposed to DJ from below?! So an epic night turned into a what coulda been...
